Intel’s CULV processors aren’t noted for their processing performance as much as they are low power usage. HD video playback is impressively sharp on the screen and it felt like a spritely little machine. The trackpad sits above the mouse buttons, which are formed from a single piece of plastic with a gutter strangely cut into it. Touch Portal is still a slow gimmick. It’s also very, very shiny, and liable to pick up fingerprints. This Aspire’s touchscreen is responsive, though: They’re the reason you see people using stupid styluses with their Samsung phones.

It seems strange, then, that Acer has opted for a rubbish integrated graphics chip: The PT boasts an accelerometer, which means that the device will automatically tilt the screen when you hold it vertically or horizontally. Damn shame though, we’d love to get our hands on a touchscreen tablet capable of gaming, even if the touchscreen version of RUSE looks a tad befuddling.

Acer has also included its own touchscreen software, which is activated by flicking up one corner of the screen. Straight up slate-style tablets are the flavour of the month, but that hasn’t stopped vendors from producing convertible tablets with full keyboards.

Millions of tiny pixels are nice, but when this, in turn, reduces the size of the icons — and the touch areas — it makes it a tad more difficult to use.
That unit conked out one minute short of two hours, but the PT was just getting warmed up. We commented in the review of the similar Acer Aspire PZG that TouchPortal looks pretty but doesn’t save a whole lot of functional time for the same features as simply using in-built Windows applications.
It seems Acer is going for that business market of people who wear nice shoes and have Blackberries and like nothing more than a great big Excel spreadsheet. It does look a little odd, but it’s easy to rest your fingers in there.
